Step-By-Step Guide to a Daily Skincare Routine for Oily Skin

Introduction:

Oily skin gets a bad reputation for its shiny, greasy finish, and frequent breakouts. While these traits can feel frustrating, they come with hidden perks which can be a blessing in disguise. The natural sebum produced by the skin plays a major role in keeping your skin hydrated and supple and can slow down unwanted premature signs of ageing like wrinkles and fine lines.

That said, if there are pros, there are also cons to having excessive sebum in the skin. Sudden breakouts, acne, persistent pimples, and the ever-present greasy shine that can feel impossible to control. The key to managing oily skin lies in a consistent and well-planned skincare routine that includes oil-balancing face serums, moisturising creams and more to keep excessive sebum under control and your beautiful skin at its best state!

Step-by-step skincare routine

  • Face cleansing:

Kick-starting your skincare routine with a cleansed face is like preparing a blank canvas before you paint a masterpiece on it. This step allows your skin to be free of accumulated dirt, dead cells, and impurities that hinder the seamless penetration of skincare ingredients into your skin. Use a gentle yet impactful face cleanser that goes deep into your skin to remove impurities without stripping away the natural oils.

For effective results, use your face wash on wet skin. Splash some normal room temperature water on your face and neck, take a small amount of face wash of your choice on your palms, and rub it gently for lather. Apply the face wash on your face and neck in a circular motion, massage your face skin for a minute, and rinse it off with water.

  • Tonner for extra cleanse:

Tonner acts as an extra cleansing step that helps you remove any remaining dirt or impurities and helps balance the pH levels of your skin. Use a soft cloth to pat dry your skin after using a face wash. Now, take a cotton pad, pour a small amount of toner on it, and swap it across your face and neck. If you don’t have a cotton pad, you can simply apply the toner on your skin and use your fingers to spread it evenly. Let it settle on your skin for a while.

  • Nourishing face serums:

Designed to treat specific skin concerns, serums are concentrated formulations that go deep into your skin. If you are dealing with persistent acne scars, pimples, and pigmentation, opt for a face serum rich in Niacinamide, Salicylic Acid, AHAs and BHAs, and other hydrating ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid that help existing skin concerns and balance oil production in the skin.

Apply a few drops of serum on your face and use your fingertips to spread it evenly. A concentrated face serum can take a few minutes to settle on your face, so avoid touching your skin during that process.

  • Hydrating creams:

Oily skin and moisturisers? A big-time no, right? But, to your surprise, skipping on moisturisers can amplify sebum production in your skin and in some cases, even worsen your existing skin concerns. When your skin becomes dry, to compensate for lack of moisture, your skin tends to produce more oil which leads to skin problems like clogged pores, acne, and more.

Instead, use lightweight and quick-absorbing face moisturisers like POND’S Super Light Gel that provide hydration without leaving a greasy residue or shine. Scoop a nickel-sized amount of moisturiser and apply it dots all over your face and neck. Use your fingers to massage and spread the moisturiser on your skin.

  • Sunscreen:

Finish your skincare routine with a broad-spectrum sunscreen that safeguards your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays. Apply enough sunscreen on your face, neck, and other exposed area of your skin at least 15 to 20 minutes before stepping out in the sun.

Conclusion:

Following a dedicated skincare routine is one thing and staying consistent is another. You must follow your skincare routine every day to witness drastic and favourable changes in your beautiful skin. Here’s to happy, healthy, and flawless looking skin!
