Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Private Jets and How They Operate

Before 2020, hiring a private jet seemed like a fantasy to most people. However, after the world was hit by the coronavirus pandemic, we all started to want a little more time away from strangers. In fact, private jets started to seem so attractive that there were private jet shortages occurring around the world.

Chartering a jet might seem intimidating but it’s not that difficult. And luckily for you, we are here to help. So keep on reading and we’ll take you through everything that you’ll want to know!

What Type of Jet Should You Get?

The kind of jet that you charter is going to depend on how many passengers you will be bringing with you. The destination, luggage requirements, and budget will also come into play.

Planes like the Boeing Business Jet and Global Express are great for long flights and big groups. These planes seat around twenty people and come with beds, big bathrooms, and multiple cabins.

Two popular mid-sized jets are the Citation XLS and Hawker 900XP. These planes can carry eight people and are used to fly up to five hours. Some people like flying solo in these planes.

How Far in Advance Do You Need to Book?

Just like with everything else in life, the earlier you book, the better off you will be. However, there are some companies that allow you to book and then take off in less than an hour.

A lot of private jet users book one week in advance.

How Do You Get to Your Private Plane?

A lot of airports also have private terminals. Or they let private plane brokers work as fixed base operators (FBOs) to handle private air traffic.

FBOs offer important support services for plane operators not too far away from the main terminal. When a passenger on a private jet arrives to take off for their trip, or when they land at their destination, they go to the FBO instead of the main airport terminal.

The public does not have access to fixed-base operators. FBOs usually have private doors and a lot of security.

While not all airports have FBOs, many of them do.

Can You Change Your Trip?

The more notice you give for an adjustment, the better. You should be able to extend your vacation or change your destination without much problem.

The charter company will need to get new permissions for the new destination and that can take time. It will also probably come at an additional cost.
